What will the Dems bring to Lakewood?
Contributed by: Erin Feese/YourHub.com   on 3/5/2008

About 100 community members came out March 3 to hear a forum presented by Rep. Ed Perlmutter and National Convention Committee CEO Leah Daughtry about what the DNC will mean to Lakewood. According to the DNC press release, "Rep. Perlmutter and Daughtry, along with Lakewood Mayor Bob Murphy, answered questions, offered information and discussed opportunities for economic benefits for Lakewood area residents and business owners in advance of the four-day event in August."

The event has already affected the community, as the 2008 Lakewood on Parade was canceled due to the convention happening the same weekend.

There is no doubt this event will bring opportunities for local businesses to market to the expected 35,000 attendees.
While several Lakewood area hotels are among the DNCC's official hotel properties, convention organizers said they aim to put out tools and information to help even more local business owners help themselves in making the most of the convention. One idea reported by the Associated Press is that Lakewood might be able to benefit from the convention by running a shuttle bus downtown.

According to the Rocky Mountain News, the forum also discussed the issue of superdelegates and the ongoing talks with the unions representing workers that will work during the convention.
