Go fish; flight of fancy

Early this month, a girl-hood friend from the East Coast arrived, armed with an itinerary that could challenge the most industrious of sightseers. Among her picks were the Downtown Aquarium, 700 Water St., Denver, and the Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center, 6252 104th Ave., Westminster. Superb choices. These tow gems are exceptionally outstanding.

The aquarium structure transcends unique - huge caves inside a watery greenhouse! Fascinating. You'll view a great deal in addition to the fish - a mini-zoo with snakes, birds, aquatic mammals and the largest flower on earth. This adventure was akin to being around the world with wildernesses, deserts, oceans, rainforests, beaches and more.

On to the Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center. The visual stimulation one encounters is a surreal feat for the eyes. See every color of the rainbow and then some in an array of brilliant, iridescent, psychedelic shades, hues tints and gradations. I found it mind-boggling though thoroughly pleasurable as I continually shook my head in amazement. Another highlight was Rosie, the Chilean Rosehair Tarantula. Be sure to get close and comfy with her, as she's absolutely adorable!

At both the aquarium and the Butterfly Pavilion, the exhibits were tastefully and intelligently presented with clear explanations and many interesting facts. Do you know that a shark is the only fish that can blink with both eyes or that butterflies taste with their feet? The incredible beauty, grace and sheer variety of the magnificent creatures is mesmerizing.

Do take time out this summer to delight in the wonders of these marvelous fantasy worlds. Guaranteed you'll be enchanted with two memorable experiences!
