Grant provides much-needed boost to Denver metro and Colorado Springs homeowners in danger of foreclosure:
Westminster, Colo. - The Colorado Rural Housing Development Corporation (CRHDC) has received $116,404 to support foreclosure prevention counseling efforts. The much-needed boost means that CRHDC can double its efforts to counsel Denver metro homeowners in danger of foreclosure - and expand efforts to Colorado Springs as well.
"It's important to get the word out about how people can avoid foreclosure," said Al Gold, executive director, CRHDC. "More than half of homeowners facing foreclosure do not call for help when they fall behind in their mortgage payments. But, we know that early action is critical. Homeowners who are one or two payments behind are more likely to keep their homes than those further behind on their payments."
CRHDC has counseled almost 425 struggling homeowners in the past two years. Most were able to stay in their homes because they took action early.
CRHDC is a member of NeighborWorks America - the nation's largest certifier of homeownership counselors. Specializing in homeownership education and counseling, and one of only 96 NeighborWorks Homeownership Centers in the United States, CRHDC is uniquely qualified to counsel struggling homeowners.
CRHDC's grant is part of $130 million awarded nationally by NeighborWorks America through the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program. In total, more than 700 local counseling agencies and local NeighborWorks organizations are partners in this effort. It is estimated that 350,000 to 400,000 families facing the threat of foreclosure will be directly assisted with this funding.
Approved by Congress, the program is administered through a competitive application process by NeighborWorks America, within guidelines defined by Congressional legislation. NeighborWorks America is an independent, Congressionally-chartered non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., with a mission to provide access to sustainable homeownership and safe, affordable rental housing.
CRHDC, a member of the national NeighborWorks network, is located at 3621 W. 73rd Ave., Westminster. The phone number is 303-428-1448.
In Colorado Springs, contact CRHDC at 7 E. Bijou St., #209 or 719-633-0535.
ABOUT CRHDC
CRHDC, a NeighborWorks organization, creates innovative approaches in providing safe and affordable housing to low- to moderate-income families in Colorado through technical assistance, property development, financing and education. Since 1971, CRHDC has promoted affordable housing for migrants, seasonal farm workers and low- to moderate-income families across Colorado, serving more than 40 counties and hundreds of families. CRHDC also serves urban communities through an affiliate corporation - Colorado Housing Enterprises.
Specializing in homeownership education and counseling, CRHDC is one of only 96 NeighborWorks Home Ownership Centers in the United States.
CRHDC AND THE NEIGHBORWORKS NETWORK
NeighborWorks America provides financial support, technical assistance and training for communities across the nation. CRHDC is a member of the nationwide NeighborWorks network of nearly 4,500 urban, suburban and rural communities across America. These organizations engage in revitalization strategies that strengthen communities and transform lives. In the last five years alone, NeighborWorks organizations have generated more than $12 billion in reinvestment and helped more than 845,000 families of modest means purchase or improve their homes, or secure safe, decent rental or mutual housing.
CRHDC is located at 3621 W. 73rd Ave., Westminster. The phone number is 303-428-1448. For more information, access www.crhdc.org or www.nw.org. In Colorado Springs, contact CRHDC at 7 E. Bijou St., #209 or 719-633-0535.
