Youth Commit to Healthy Lifestyle Decisions

The 18th annual Adams School District 50 Youth Conference was recently held at Ranum High School and facilitated by Westminster Area Community Awareness Action Team (C.A.A.T.). National speakers gave messages about making healthy decisions that don't lead to risky lifestyles.
Youth attended workshops addressing teen isssues such as, healthy relationships, safety online, suicide prevention, transitioning from Mexico to American schools, alcohol use and losing your driver's license. Throughout the two day conference, youth attended small discussion groups led by trainined adult and student leaders. Saturday night they enjoyed a dance and inflatable obstacle course, while parents heard a presentation from Black and White Productions on Hormones and Hairgel - Communicating with your teenager.
In closing survey comments by youth, they say they are returning next year because it keeps them drug free; they learn more and more every year in a fun way; it reminds them why they chose their choices and reinforces their commitments; and that it's great for our community.
There were over 100 student alumni, educators, law enforcement, parents and community volunteers who supported the two day conference. We appreciate funding support for the conference from Adams School District 50, Friends First, Westminster Legacy Foundation, Westminster 7:10 Rotary Club, Sports Ink, Pachello Printing, Adams County Sheriff's Dept., Westminster Police Dept., CO Dept of Revenue, Hearings Div., Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention, Colorado Tobacco Prevention and Cessation program, Voices of School District 50, Latina Outreach and Support, King Soopers, and Westminster Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Safeway, Papa Johns, and Broomfield Old Chicago.
