Ranum High School student attends PeaceJam
Contributed by: Deb Haviland on 9/25/2006

Jennifer Depinto, a Ranum IB student, attended PeaceJam this weekend as a representative of the school and its core values of multicultural awareness and acceptance. This event allowed her to work alongside the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu and nine other Nobel Laureates. In addition to these amazing leaders and thinkers, she met and studied with 3,000 other students from as far away as Burma and South Africa.

As a member of the RHS Amnesty International Club and the IB Programme, she exemplifies everything that is possible when a student sees the world for its true meaning and what it takes as a person to be a true citizen of the world. As a studentwho participated in the Imbabazi Orphanage Project for victims of the Rwandan Genocide, it was her privilege to meet a survivor of that atrocity and share her studies with him during this event. Jennifer plans to attend the next PeaceJam, which will be held in two years in Costa Rica.
