Westminster High School's Horticulture Club,
under the direction of Phil Love, has received the Governor's award, aka Best of Show; High School Division, for their display at the Garden and Home Show. They also received first place for Aesthetics and Plant Material, second place for Construction, and third place for Functionality and Blue Prints. The Construction Trades Class, under the leadership of Darrell Walsh, contributed the 11 X 11 Trex deck, with landings and ramp, to the award winning display.
In spite of the snow,
the Valentines Day: Connecting Hearts, Giving Hope Community Breakfast was exceptional. Over 350 people spent the morning garnering information about the District 50 Education Foundation from foundation grant and scholarship winners. Dr. Roberta Selleck and Dr. Lorenzo Trujillo, a Ranum graduate and University of Colorado Law School professor spoke, and Tennyson Knolls Students and Westminster High School's Raging Harmonies offered musical contributions. Although the final tally has not yet been made, contributions have been positive and encouraging. Thank you to all who participated in this heartwarming event.
Trenton DeHerrera, a 5th grader
at Sunset Ridge Elementary, broke the school's record for the most consecutive jumps by jumping rope 3,480 times. Trenton was recognized by the Skip It jump rope team during the Jump Rope for Heart Assembly and was given a jump rope for all of his hard work.
The Western Painted Turtle
slowly inches its way to the official State Reptile status as it was unanimously passed by the Senate committee. Students at Skyline Vista Elementary worked on their public speaking skills as they once again testified to the Senate committee with Senator Jennifer Viega. With the approval of the Senate committee, Senator Viega will now take the bill to the senate floor. If the Western Painted Turtle moves pass the senate floor, it will move on to Governor Bill Ritter.
