Senior gift to add seats to last year's courtyard

Many things help define a senior class, and one of them is their senior gift. Seniorgifts aregiven to upcoming classes to improve the school in some way. The class of 2008 will be addingon to the courtyardfrom 2007.

The class of 2008 will be trying to create a social area near the courtyard on the east front lawn near the athletic hall doors.

The area will include concrete tables with a plaque evgraved with a pineapple in the center and the words "Senior Class of 2008 - Cherish Life" surrounding it. The senior class Student Council is trying to have the area completed by mid-April so the seniors can enjoy it.

Around the end of first semester, a letter was sent to all seniors and their families to help encourage donations. The letter explained the gift and what its significance to the Class of 2008 is.

The letter also said, "We want to leave our mark on the school that has helped to shape us into the people we are today - the people that we will be when we turn out tassels and begin to make our place in the world. We want our Senior Gift to say, to the future classes of Standley Lake High School, that life is too short and too valuable to be squandered. It is a gift that needs to be cherished."

-Alexandra Pilarski, Editor in Chief, senior

Note: At the beginning of this school year, senior Dan Lunger passed away. His symbol to the school isa pineapple and that's why the senior class wishes to include that image in their gift.
