District 50 News: Painted turtle gets state nod

The Western Painted Turtle Wins! Just before 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, Governor Ritter signed into law the "Turtle Bill" declaring the Western Painted Turtle Colorado's State Reptile. Students in Mr. Jay Baichi's class at Skyline Vista Elementary initiated the legislation early fall 2007. Representative Cherylin Peniston and Senator Jennifer Viega carried the bill through the house and senate.
Adams County School District 50 Wins International Award for Budget Excellence. The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has awarded Adams County School District 50, and Sandy Rotella, Assistant Superintendent of Support Services and her staff in Business and Finance, the Meritorious Budget Award for excellence in the preparation and issuance of a school system annual budget for 2007-2008.
Mark Belnay, language arts teacher at Ranum High School, was awarded the most motivated classroom from the Westminster Rotary Club. Mark went to Africa last fall; upon his return he presented information on the current plight of a particular orphanage. He showed how far a penny can go by showing how the children of Africa benefitted from the donations that was raised last year at Ranum High School.

LOOKING AHEAD:
Ranum High School's International Baccalaureate Art Students will display their artwork once again at the Westminster City Hall, March 31 through April 10. Join us April 10 for live music, food and fun at the reception April 10, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. There will be a silent auction of the student artwork to benefit the MYP/IB visual art program.
District 50 Educational Foundation is looking for volunteers and donations for the 6th annual Golf Tournament. The golf tournament will be held on May 28 at the Hyland Hills Golf Course. If you would like to donate an item for the silent auction or if you would like to volunteer contact Kathy Kelly, Director of District 50 Education Foundation at 720.542.5086 or kkelly@adams50.org
Fourth and Fifth grade students at Berkeley Gardens Elementary will be singing "Take me out to the ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch at the Colorado Rockies game April 5.
