On Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at a breakfast meeting at Ciancio's Restaurant at 94th and Sheridan, the Westminster Optimist Club honored two students,
Michael Jarvis
from Ranum High School and
Amanda Rankin
from Westminster High School for being selected March Student of the Month. The staff at each of the schools selected the students based on outstanding scholastic achievement, excellent attitiude, and attendance. In recognition of this honor the students were invited to breakfast and the Club presented them with a framed certificate and special key chain.
Michael Jarvis,
son of
Brian and Shannon Jarvis,
grandson of
Gene and Kitty Funk
, and a senior at Ranum High School, was selected Student of the Month because he does very well in all of his classes, is well rounded, intelligent, and respectful with a lot of potential to succeed. As a freshman he was a member of ROTC. He played football and baseball. He also has a part time job at Covenant Village as a prep cook. After graduation Michael plans to attend Metro for two years and then transfer to the University of Colorado at Denver to complete a degree in Crimnal Justice.
Amanda Rankin
, daughter of
Shelly and Rob Rankin
, and a junior at Westminster High School, has shown leadership in the AVID Classroom and in school. She is dedicated to her studies and works hard to achieve her goals. she is considered by the staff to be a model for how students should behave and work. Amanda is a member fo the National Honor Society, Student Government, is interested in musice, takes AP classes, and plans to run for Student President. After graduation, Amanda plans to attend pre-med and med school, to become a pediatrician and eventually open her own private practice.
