Merling Trio music ensemble to perform at FRCC

WESTMINSTER, Colo. - The Merling Trio, an internationally acclaimed ensemble, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Visual and Performing Arts Gallery at Front Range Community College. Admission is free, but tickets are required. Please call Kevin Garry at 303-404-5590. Distribution is limited to two tickets per caller. The gallery seats 50.

The Merling Trio is composed of Renata Artman Knific, violin; Bruce Uchimura, cello, and Susan Wiersma Uchimura, piano. Each is in residence at Western Michigan University and associated with the ENCORE School of Strings at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Lancut Festival in Poland. The trio made its New York debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 1993, and was named a finalist for the Naumburg Foundation Chamber Music Award in 1994.

Members of the trio have performed with orchestras such as the English Chamber Orchestra, the Honolulu Symphony, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia, and the South Carolina Philharmonic, under the baton of such notable conductors as Daniel Barenboim, Simon Rattle, and Christoph Eschenbach. Other performances include concerts for the Chamber Music Society of Charleston, W. Va., the Texas Friends of Chamber Music Series, the Jewel Box Series at Northeastern Illinois University, the Columbus, Ohio, Museum of Art, and the Skaneateles Festival in New York.

Of a previous performance, a reviewer wrote in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, "The Merling Trio performed with the warmth of a family coming home to play for friends ... the players shaped a grand interpretation, fluent in rhythm, clear in structure and rich in romantic feeling."

The Visual and Performing Arts Gallery is Room C1660 of the Westminster Campus, 3645 W. 112th Ave. Free parking is available at the campus, which also is on an RTD line.
