While many people will be dreaming of a White Christmas this year, John Bailey, host of the popular radio show, the 16 Kicks Garage Sale, is guaranteeing one in the Denver Metro area. Bailey has already received voice mail messages questioning his sanity. Visitors to the show's website aren’t on his side yet, either. The current poll on the home page stands at just 10.8% who believe that a White Christmas is assured. Even local meteorologists are giving it a 35% chance at best. In spite of the seeming long odds, Bailey is undaunted. During his Saturday morning show, 6 to 7 on 1600 AM, KCKK Radio, the host claimed he has an inside track with someone identified only as "the Snowman", saying, “the Snowman’s methods are environmentally sound, and guaranteed to work, there’s no getting around it.”
NOAA's National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office, isn’t ready to give a firm nod, either. According to historical data, (
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/bou/include/showProduct.php?product=pnsden.xma
)
only 37 Christmas days since 1900 have had enough snow
on the ground to be called a white Christmas. Their best guess is to say if having a
White Christmas means having an inch or more of snow on the ground
on Christmas day...then the chances are about 36 percent. But if
a white Christmas means having measurable new snowfall on Christmas
day...then the odds drop to about 12 percent.
Bailey states that up to the minute details can be found on the company website,
http://16KicksGarageSale.com
, and signed off his claim by saying, “It’s breaking out into a contest, is what it’s doing, I’m telling you that. But I will guarantee snow in the Metro Area on Christmas. Absolutely it will...there’s going to be a White Christmas. No doubt about that.”
