The Senior Hub’s Meals On Wheels Program is committed to bringing the "spirit of the season" to isolated homebound clients.
"This is a wonderful, heartwarming opportunity for individuals, friends, families, workplaces, and faith groups to provide a Meals On Wheels client with a Christmas dinner, stocking, present or other seasonal items," says Marita Hafner, The Senior Hub’s Meals on Wheels Program Director.
"Our clients who ask to participate in this program very often have no local family members, and would be particularly lonely otherwise. Volunteers deliver items to one or more individuals and spend some time with cheerful conversation with them. The contact and interaction is as important or more important than the actual gifts," explains Ms. Hafner.
"We will have between 20 and 30 homebound clients who would benefit from this assistance," Marita explains, "so there’s plenty of need."
If volunteers are not able to adopt a senior, but would like to participate in the program, other options include:
- Purchasing a gift (suggestions available upon request), which would need to be delivered to The Senior Hub by 5 p.m. December 16th.
- Purchasing stocking stuffers (suggestions available upon request), which would need to be delivered to The Senior Hub by 5 p.m. December 16th.
- Providing gift bags or gift wrap, which would need to be delivered to The Senior Hub by 5 PM December 16th.
- Purchasing a holiday meal for a senior for $12.99. Checks should be made out to The Senior Hub, and the memo line should include "holiday meal(s) through MOW."
