It's the most wonderful time of the year ... except that home fires and injuries increase during the holidays; Christmas trees, holiday lights, decorations, candles and cooking are common causes. Please heed these safety tips to avoid a
Blue Christmas:
O Christmas Tree! Keep trees well watered and away from all heat sources (candles, fireplace sparks, space heaters, hot light bulbs, etc.).
Lights. To keep
your days merry and bright, check all light strands before use; do not use them if damaged or if they create a lot of heat. Look for the holographic UL Mark on light strings and electrical decorations. The UL Mark means that UL engineers have tested samples of the product for safety hazards (Green holographic UL Mark = Indoor-only use, Red holographic UL Mark = Indoor and outdoor use). Do not overload extension cords.
Decorating. Use caution on step stools and ladders; they must be level and secure before climbing. Do not climb on unsafe objects like folding chairs or boxes. Do not over-reach; move the ladder/step stool instead of losing your balance. Wear shoes with non-slip soles, and,

Winter Wonderland.
Candles. Never leave candles unattended; blow them out if you leave the room. Candles should be at least 12 inches away from anything that can burn, not

Cooking. Never leave food cooking unattended, especially
