Westminster shows great giving spirit
Contributed by: Westminster Fire Department on 12/20/2007

The Westminster Fire Department would like to thank all of those that donated to the Holiday Charity Drive this year! Residents and City employees donated toys and food at local fire stations, libraries, rec centers, and businesses from Nov. 26 - Dec. 17. Westminster's response was overwhelming.

Jennifer L. Christenson, Client Services Manager at Ten West at Westmoor Technology Park, arranged for donation drop-offs at their office buildings and promoted the drive. "It's a great project, we are happy to participate," said Christenson. Toys R Us donated 16 boxes of toys and clothes to add to the over 75 big "Santa bags" of toys and clothes and 20 boxes of food collected in the drive.

"This is the most we've had donated since I've worked on this project," said Lt. Bruce Black, coordinator of the Westminster Firefighters' Holiday Charity Drive. On Dec. 17 Black and firefighters Tim Reisbeck and Martine Perez spent most of the day picking up the last of the donations, sorting and loading items, and delivering everything to the three benefitting agencies. Donations are distributed to three local charities: the Have a Heart Project, Jeffco Foster Care and the Westminster Outreach Food Bank. "People have big hearts," added Lt. Black, "All we need to do is give them the chance to give to those less fortunate and they more than meet the challenge. It makes me proud to work for this community."
