This year marks the 12th Christmas season the train has made its appearance in Westminster, and its 46th birthday!
Although we did not build the train, we are proud to carry on the homemade tradition with the additions we have made over the years. We have built a ski lift, a fully operational miniature railroad crossing signal, and a Ferris wheel. Nearly 86 hand-painted wood cutouts complete the display. The train will always be the main attraction as our display grows.
We have added a radio transmitter to broadcast the story of the train. While in front of the house, visitors may tune their car radio to 107.9 FM to listen. We are happy to say; the narrator of the story is
Julie O'Malley
. Julie is one of the builder's children. She rode the train while growing up. In fact, she wouldn't get off the train until it ran out of gas. Due to liability and safety issues, children are not allowed to ride on the train.
The train loves an audience, so plan to stop by and pay her a visit! She runs nightly during the holiday season from 5:30-10 p.m., unless it snows. When it's snowing, the wheels do not get traction on the rails. If you pull up and don't see the train, just wait a minute. She takes about 2 1/2 minutes to go around the entire yard.
This year, make the train one of your "must see'" displays, at the home of
Sharon
and
Terry Miller
, 7645 Hooker St. in Westminster.
