A prayer answered
Contributed by: Carissa Ednalino on 2/12/2007

Call it fate, call it destiny or even an answered prayer but whatever it is the reason my fiancé Joe and I ended up together. Joe and I grew up in the same city where we lived a mile away from each other and went to the same high school where we met for the first time in high school chemistry class.

Our chemistry class was mix of junior and seniors and I happen to be a senior in that class and Joe was junior. Joe, being a high school boy and thinking that he would never stand a chance dating me, insisted on flirting with me shamelessly, he would say anything just to get my attention and get a laugh out of me. Our encounters in chemistry class was very casual and like summer romance when the semester ended and class schedules change Joe and I went our separate ways and went back to a hello now and then in passing.

Fast forward five years to the summer of '04. I was heading home from work when some friends called to invite to play trivia at a local restaurant, having worked all day I was really reluctant to go, but went. At the restaurant, we were enjoying our game hoping to be the trivia winners for the night. At the end of the game, we did end up winning andour group stayed a while longer to hang out.

As we sat and chatted, a boy started walking our direction to head to the restrooms. He was looking down at his feet, hands in his pocket, and as he approached our table he looked up right at me and I recognized him instantly. I smiled at him he did somewhat of a double take and smiled back. The night was getting later so I had decided to bid my friends good-bye. As I was gathering my stuff to leave, Joe finally approached me to make small talk. He and I chatted for a few minutes and exchanged numbers. Two days later we went on our first date and a little over two years later he proposed to me on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii.

When Joe and I talk about how we met, he tells me how amazed he was that we were at the same place, since that night he and his friends just happened to stop by at that restaurant where they almost never go to, but by chance were there. Joe also mentioned to me that him seeing me was so surreal for him because two nights previous he had prayed that he may meet someone to love and that night dreamt about me and two night later there I was.

Joe and I will celebrate our three years this summer with plans to get married next summer. We have been the perfect match for each other in every way --we are best friends and we bring the best out in each other. I never really understood how you would know that you have found "the one," but being with Joe has defined it for me. Having him in my life has given me a completeness that I can't even describe. Finding Joe was finding the person who completed me.
