Westminster sisters Christine and Lindsey McNulty both won first place awards at the 2006 Central Region Championships, June 10-12, in Denton, Texas.

Fifteen-year-old Christine McNulty captured first place in Beginning Dance Twirl, ages 14-16, while 14-year-old Lindsey McNulty won top honors in Beginning Two Baton, ages 13-15. They competed against twirlers from Colorado, Kansas, Texas and Louisiana.

"Christine and Lindsey are dedicated athletes who have worked hard to develop the skills that the sport of baton twirling requires; the eye-hand coordination of a hockey player, the speed of a sprinter, the flexibility of a gymnast and the artistry of a figure skater," said Cheryl Osborn, the McNultys' coach and twirling instructor for the City of Westminster Parks and Recreation Department. "They represented Colorado very well!"

In addition to twirling, Christine McNulty also plays the flute. She was a member of the Standley Lake High School wind ensemble last year, and will play in marching band this year. She will be a junior.

Lindsey McNulty will be a freshman at Standley Lake High School. Last year she was student body president at Holy Trinity Catholic School. The McNultys are the daughters of Dan and Dina McNulty, of Westminster.
