District 50 News: Ranum athletics to be featured

Ranum High School will be featured on Fox Network's "Good day Colorado" on Friday, April 25, from 7:00-10:00 a.m. Marcia Neville and Dan Daru will report live from Ranum throughout the show to celebrate the Ranum Raiders athletic program as it finishes its' final year.

Students and teachers from Tennyson Knolls Elementary rose over $2,700 at their annual Jump Rope for Heart Event. The money goes to the American Heart Association to fight heart disease and stroke. Emeral Romero collected the most money in donations for which she received two tickets to a Nuggets game. Tennyson Knolls has been supporting the American Heart Association for the past seven years.

F.M. Day Elementary has received a four star rating - the highest ranking possible - from Qualistar for their preschool program. Qualistar looks at the quality of the learning environment, the qualifications of the staff, the level of parental involvement and interaction, and other aspects of the program, then awards stars based on the results. The ECC and Skyline Vista have each been awarded three stars.

Derek Mc Bride and Josh Pfeifer signed letters of intent to play baseball for Tabor College. Derek and Josh played baseball and football throughout their high school careers and lettered in both. It is expected that they will sign letters to play football as well.

The District 50 Education Foundation is committed to helping ACSD50 graduates pursue their goals of a post secondary education. The Board of Directors spent over 20 hours interviewing students for a variety of scholarships and is pleased to announce the 2008 Scholarship Winners. Scholarship Winners

The District 50 Education Foundation has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Kaiser Permanente Foundation to develop the "I Believe I Achieve Program" which supports district wide academic achievement. This is a tremendous boost to the project and the Foundation looks forward to sharing this donation with the district.

Clear Lake and Scott Carpenter middle schools have been selected as school visit sites for the upcoming National Middle School Association's (NMSA) Annual Conference. Each school was selected based on observed learning and teaching talents and their exceptional staffs. The Colorado Association of Middle Level Education feels both will make a tremendous impact in this national setting.

LOOKING AHEAD:

7th and 8th grade Art students at Scott Carpenter Middle School will hold their second annual Empty Bowls Soup Dinner on Saturday May 3, 2008. Soup will be served in student created ceramic bowls in the S.C.M.S. cafeteria from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. When the soup is gone, diners will keep their bowls as a reminder of the people throughout the world, and in our community, whose bowls are always empty. Cost for bowls and dinner will be $5.00; proceeds will be donated to the Rocky Mountain Food Bank.

Westminster High School Community Outreach Council in conjunction with VOICES will host "Risky Behaviors" presented by; North Metro Task Force and 180° Gang Alternatives on Tuesday, April 15 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Westminster High School Library. Learn More

Ranum's book fair, at the Barnes & Noble on 92nd and Sheridan, will be held April 13 through April 19. Tell the cashier you are with Ranum High School and a percentage of your total purchase will be donated to the school. Attend the kickoff event on Tuesday, April 15 for the opportunity to win door prizes, see student artwork, and enjoy open mic poetry. Are you ready for some Baseball? Adams County School District 50's 2008, Community Night with the Rockies will be Friday, May 2. The game against the L.A. Dodgers starts at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and will be available for pick up at the Educational Services Center April 21-April 25.
