Westminster Mall redevelopment moves forward
The redevelopment of the Westminster Mall is a tremendous opportunity to create a vibrant, around-the-clock mixed-
use neighborhood that will serve the City of Westminster as a vital, transit-based center of activity.
It will be a place to live, work, play and visit, a place to entertain and be entertained, and will serve as a source of great community pride for existing city residents and the new residents it will attract.
Westminster has been working for several months on a conceptual plan that presents a long-term vision for redevelopment of the Westminster Mall. Revitalization of the mall is the top priority of the Westminster City Council's strategic plan, and developing the concept plan is the first step in a lengthy process to accomplish that goal.
To help create the concept plan, the city hired Van Meter, Williams, and Pollack, a seasoned architecture and urban design firm focusing on mixed-use and urban infill projects. Located in Denver and San Francisco, Van Meter, Williams, and Pollack has designed several mixed-use projects, most notably the Belmar development in Lakewood.
The proposed concept plan was presented to Westminster City Council on July 7.
The broad vision and principles outlined below are intended to help guide potential developers toward achieving the city's objectives for the long-term redevelopment of Westminster Mall into a lively mixed-use retail/residential/office neighborhood.
This site is strategically located on approximately 102-acre parcel adjacent to and across 88th Avenue from a future Regional Transit District Westminster Transit Station, just west of U.S. 36.
