On October 11, 2007 a young man in our community met with a horrific accident that has changed his life.
Twenty-two year old Zachary Neumann was on his way to his job as a mechanic for the City of Westminster riding the motorcycle he had built from salvaged parts. Near the intersection of Westminster Boulevard and 96th Avenue, he saw something out of the corner of his eye. The next thing he knew he was hurled 100 feet through the air. (Yes, he was wearing a helmet.)
Zach was airlifted by Flight for Life to St. Anthony's Hospital where doctors told his family that he was paralyzed from a spinal injury (at T-4). After spending two weeks at St. Anthony's, he eventually arrived at Craig Hospital Denver, one of the top rehab hospitals in the nation.
During his ten-week stay, Zach made remarkable progress adapting quickly to life in a wheelchair. He has shown great courage and optimism, but the challenge is still enormous. The medical bills plus the cost to adapt his vehicles and home environment for his disability will continue to put a financial burden on Zach.
Zach has always been a gearhead. His ability to rebuild engines, put together a motorcycle from scrap, or build a race car is extraordinary. Seven years ago, he entered his first drag race. You might have seen him at Bandimere Speedway.
Soon, Zach will roll out his ultimate race car (so far), an '84 Camaro that he is fitting with hand controls. Everyone who knows Zach loves him. He is sweet and capable and responsible. He is also a family man with his partner, Adrienne, and five-year-old stepdaughter, Autumn, who calls him daddy.
We hope to see you at the pasta finner and we hope you will find it in your heart to contribute to the Silent Auction--or just send a check--to help this "New-Man" as he finds his way back from his traumatic injury. Tickets at the door or in advance a For Reservations & Info: Call Adrienne at 303-895-6826 5-10 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Westminster City Park Recreation Center - 10455 Sheridan Admission: $15 Adults, $10 Kids (12 & under)
