An employee for AT&T reported at 2:58 p.m. March 17 that someone had stolen 1,000 feet of copper wire and two copper 'buss bars' that are used to prevent damage in the case of lightning, from a cell phone tower on the 9000 block of Yates Street. Estimated value of the stolen items is $1,500. Apparently, someone had drilled a steel plate away from the door to gain entry to the tower. The last time the tower had been checked was 10:30 a.m. March 7.
An employee at Devereux Cleo Wallace, 8405 Church Ranch Blvd., reported that a patient/student juvenile had assaulted her at 4:45 p.m. Feb. 23 in the building. The employee said the juvenile had just been returned to the facility after having run away. When he saw the employee, the juvenile allegedly punched the employee multiple times in the face. The employee fell back and hit her head. The was confirmed by a co-worker, who saw the incident and restrained the juvenile after it happened. The employee said she had waited for the school to report the incident to police, but had gotten tired of waiting, and finally reported it at 12:07 p.m. March 17. The employee said she has experienced headaches and memory difficulties since the incident. Another employee at Devereux Cleo Wallace said they were aware of the incident, but it was up to the employee to press charges.
A Westminster man reported at 7:23 a.m. March 17 that his handgun had been stolen from his home on the 9200 block of Quitman Street in Westminster between 10 p.m. Jan. 14 and 7 a.m. March 17. He said no one living in the house knew the whereabouts of the weapon. The man said he could think of only one other person who had been in the house, a friend of someone living in the house who had come over to drop off a cell phone. Estimated value of the weapon is $550.
