POLICE MAKE ARREST AT ROWDY PARTY
A 19-year-old man was arrested July 5 for providing alcohol to minors and possession of weapons by previous offenders after a party at his mother's house got out of control. Officers were dispatched at 2:40 a.m. to a residence on the 2900 block of 81st Avenue on a report of shots fired. Responding officers made a forced entry into the house after they allegedly witnessed a woman being dragged into the residence. A search of the house eventually turned up the 19-year-old man, who was found hiding in an attic. He told police the gun that allegedly was fired at the party was hidden in a vent. He was arrested. Neighbors told police the teens are always fighting and shooting guns. A computer work request later revealed the gun fired at the party was listed as stolen.
TODDLER RUSHED TO HOSPITAL AFTER INGESTING PILL
A 2-year-old boy was taken to the hospital July 2 after he got into a bottle of pills. Police are fire were dispatched at 1:10 p.m. to a house on the 6600 block of West 116th Avenue after the toddler swallowed a drug called Triazolam, which is commonly used to treat insomnia. The boy's grandmother, a 62-year-old Westminster woman, told police she was cleaning the house when she noticed he no longer was by her side. When she found the boy upstairs, he was under the bed with the open bottle of prescription pills. He opened his mouth and said "mine" when asked where the pills were. Physicians at St. Anthony's North Hospital told police the boy did not suffer any adverse affects from the medication.
WOMAN CLAIMS HARASSMENT
A 29-year-old Westminster woman filed a report with police June 25 claiming an unstable security guard was harassing her. The woman told police she has been friends with the man for several years, but was worried about several recent letters and e-mails he sent her. Most of the messages, police say, were sexual in nature but didn't necessarily constitute harassment. One such message left on her MySpace page read, "I miss you so bad it's miserable, so does my huge (expletive)." The woman stated she received several similar messages, but threw most of them away. The man is employed at Lakeside amusement park as an unarmed guard, but she stated the man does possess several guns, often smokes marijuana and is suicidal.
DUI SUSPECT DRANK 40 BEFORE GETTING BEHIND WHEEL
An 18-year-old Westminster man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence June 29 after he crashed into a backyard fence. At 12:48 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of 117th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard on a report of a property damage accident. Police found the man slumped behind the wheel of his Ford Explorer, which had just plowed through a brick fence and an AT&T telephone box. The driver appeared drunk and, when asked if he'd drunk anything that night, he responded, "I had a 40 about an hour ago." After failing a sobriety test, the man was arrested and transported to jail for booking.
WOMAN SAYS HUSBAND GOT DRUNK, BEAT HER
Police are looking for a 34-year-old Westminster man who allegedly got drunk and beat his wife during the Fourth of July holiday. The man's wife, 34, reported the incident at about 8 p.m. July 5, claiming the man was drunk and slapped her in the face when he became suspicious she was cheating on him. She said he also punched her in the stomach. Police attempted to contact the man on his cell phone, but he acted as if the battery was going dead and hung up.
