Westminster police learn Spanish to aid patrol

The growing need for police officers to be able to communicate effectively with the Spanish-speaking community is a top priority in Westminster. That is why the Westminster Police Department is excited to announce their participation in a program designed to teach Spanish to law enforcement officers and support personnel. The online program called "SpanishOnPatrol" can be easily accessed through any computer with Internet service. This makes it possible for officers to learn Spanish while patrolling the streets of Westminster.

"SpanishOnPatrol" is a locally owned online company based in Aurora. The company serves law enforcement agencies inmore than43 states, including several metro-area police departments. Through the website, Spanishonpatrol.com, various lessons are taught vocabulary for field interviews, traffic stops and emergency situation, along with numerous other conversational words and phrases.

Westminster Police Department has more than 137 officers, dispatchers and other administrative personnel signed up to use this program.
