CHP+, SIXTH ANNUAL COVER THE UNINSURED WEEK
Contributed by: Tammy Stratton on 4/28/2008

DENVER - April 2008 - Child Health Plan Plus is proud to support the sixth annual Cover the Uninsured Week, which will take place the week of April 27 - May 3. Cover the Uninsured Week is a nonpartisan, nationwide effort led by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, bringing together business owners, educators, students, patients, physicians, nurses, faith leaders and organizations to demand that our nation's leaders find solutions for the more than 47 million Americans, including nine million children, living without health insurance.

Cover the Uninsured Week is the nation's largest mobilization on behalf of uninsured Americans. The project began in 2003 as weeklong effort to raise awareness and has become a nationwide movement to make this issue a top national priority. Each year, Cover the Uninsured Week gains momentum as thousands of people organize events and activities on behalf of America's uninsured.

"CHP+ is a proud supporter of Colorado's Cover the Uninsured Week efforts," said Colorado Lieutenant Governor Barbara O'Brien. "Living without health insurance is a risk that no family should have to take. During this week we want to focus on the importance of access to health care for all Coloradans, especially our kids. CHP+ is a great, low-cost solution for Colorado kids and pregnant women."

CHP+ is the State's free-to-low-cost health and dental insurance program for uninsured Colorado children ages 18 and under whose families earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford private health insurance. CHP+ pays for many health services for children including physicals, immunizations (shots), medications, well-child check ups, vision care, visits to the emergency room and doctor visits. CHP+ also offers comprehensive health care benefits to pregnant women through the CHP+ Prenatal Care Program. With CHP+ Prenatal Care Program, prenatal care visits are free.

During the week of April 27 - May 3 thousands of individuals and organizations from all sectors of society will mobilize nationally and in Colorado to tell our nation's leaders that it's time to take meaningful steps toward solutions. This year the CHP+ team is planning many enrollment events thought out the State during Cover the Uninsured Week to promote the importance of children's health coverage. A list of the event CHP+ will be participating in is listed below.
