Students in the WittElementary School community are traveling the world this summer, just by picking up a book.
Nearly 70 students, from new kindergarteners to sixth-graders, drop by the Witt library every Tuesday to tour a different nation through reading, story telling and games.
Witt's Principal,
Kristi Mayer and librarian
Dodi Sale started the weekly summer story- telling days to encourage kids to keep reading and working on their literacy skills through the summer break.
A new nation or worldly location is featured every week; this week's feature destination is Africa.
The school has also partnered with the summer reading program at Barnes and Noble and the bookstore provides a selection of books for the students to read.
"We have stories, reading, literacy and craft activities and we're even using the SmartBoard and the Web," said Mayer. "Our goal is to just keep the kids reading in any way we can."
