Westy fire extricates man from equipment
Contributed by: Westminster Fire Department on 7/23/2008

An employee of a private pavement company was driving a pneumatic asphalt roller onto a flat bed trailer when it tipped over. Westminster Fire Department engine and ambulance crews and Westminster Police arrived on scene near 73 rd Avenue and Irving Street at 2:20 p.m. July 23 to find the man trapped under the heavy equipment.

"One leg was pinned between the roller and the curb," said Captain Bob Hose, "He suffered severe leg trauma."

The Westminster Fire crews used specialized extrication equipment, including heavy duty inflatable bags, to lift the asphalt roller off the victim. Westminster Fire paramedics determined the injuries were very severe and summoned Flight for Life. The victim was extricated by 2:35 p.m. and flown to a nearby hospital. There were no other injuries.
