Local Artist C.C. Opiela Opens Denver's Newest Gallery

Artist-owner creates space to foster development of up-and-coming local artists

Denver, Colo. - July 24, 2008 - Celebrated artist C.C. Opiela announces the opening of the area's newest art gallery at 840 Santa Fe Drive in Denver, Colorado. To commemorate the opening of the C.C. Opiela Gallery, delegates from the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday August 14, 2008, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Opiela, an internationally traveled and exhibited artist and lecturer, will lease a portion of her gallery's wall space to other Colorado-based artists, a unique business model that provides artists greater artistic control and allows them to manage their own creative direction and development. Opiela considers her wall-sharing model a form of "paying it forward" to younger artists who opt out of typical consignment arrangements with galleries.

"When I first set out on my own, there was no place like this for young artists to show their work. Consignment sales or over-priced retail spaces were the only options," said Opiela. "I wanted my gallery to be a supportive next step for talented mid-career and young artists."

Opiela returned the 1,200 square foot gallery to its original classic form, including mosaic tile floors and the original tin ceiling. Combined with the contemporary artwork on display, the C.C. Opiela Gallery creates an inspirational setting for art aficionados.

The C.C. Opiela Gallery will have a "preview" opening on August 1 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. to coincide with the ArtDistrict on Santa Fe's monthly First Friday Art Walk.

About C.C. Opiela
The art of C.C. Opiela is bold, dramatic, and sensual. Opiela records her mystical journeys in brilliant colors, light and textures. The mediums of mixed media acrylics and watercolor only begin to describe her dramatic work on canvas and paper. Her studies at the Art Institute of Chicago and University of Wisconsin, her understanding of philosophy and psychology, and her travels to the Greek Isles, Indonesia, Australia, and throughout the Pacific Islands have influenced and inspired her to incorporate the exotic colors and textures of nature into her style. From her base in Denver, she maintains a full schedule as artist, lecturer, demonstrator, and now, gallery owner. For more information about C.C.
