Putts for a Purpose at Adventure Golf Draws 250

About 250 students and parents from Metz Elementary School enjoyed a special day at Adventure Golf on Saturday.

The event was "Putts for a Purpose," sponsored by the Hyland Hills Foundation. The children and their families were treated to miniature golf at the heavily themed courses of Adventure Golf, given free t-shirts, food, soft drinks, face-painting, and balloon art. Additionally, several Foundation Board members got together and purchased, with the help of the Walmart Store at 96th and Sheridan, eight bicycles which were given away to eight lucky young winners.

The annual event begins with a needy school being selected to be treated to a day of fun by the Foundation. The children receive a visit from a Foundation member early in the school year where they are notified their school has been selected. Each child is then given a composition notebook and an invitation to come to Putts for a Purpose and told they can invite their family as well. A coloring contest also yielded 36 winners who received prizes.

"This is a great way to introduce golf recreation to these kids at a young age and have a fun family day at the same time," said Foundation Member Bill Maestas of FirsTier Bank, who Chaired the event. Co-sponsors of the event include Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District and School District 50.
