New Pastor at Westminster Presbyterian has Southern roots

The parishioners at Westminster Presbyterian Church reportedly treat their pastors pretty well and will have a chance to continue the tradition when they welcome a new pastor the week of Nov. 16.

Rev. Jack Cabaness and his wife Emma made a four-day driving trip from Vermont and arrived in Colorado last week.

Cabaness, a Texas native, served as pastor at the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church and previously served as Interim director of Christian education in Willamsburg Virginias. He has been an associate pastor of children and youth at the Second Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Mo.

According to Elizabeth Price, a 55-year-member of the church, Cabaness's belief is that "Faith is caught more than taught."

"During the interview process we talked about Westminster's mission statement and its commitment to honoring its founding members by reaching out to others. I admire a church that celebrates its rich history, but is also forward looking. I think the single biggest thing that makes me a good fit is that I am on board with their mission and excited about it.," said Cabaness.

Price said the Westminster church is a historical one and has served the community for 117 years. Its history goes back to before the 1900s. She said there have only been four pastors in the last 56 years.

"I think he will be a real influence on younger people. We are looking forward to seeing him and Emma. It will be quite exciting for us to have a new minister," said church office administrator Barbara Tyrer.

Rev. Cabaness's first sermon is scheduled for Nov. 22 at 10:30 a.m.

Westminster Presbyterian Church is located at 3990 W. 74 th Ave., Westminster.
