Mile High Million offers 10 percent off on trees
Contributed by: Jill McGranahan on 8/31/2007

Denver Parks and Recreation has partnered with 16 metro area nurseries to offer ten percent off coupons for deciduous trees as part of the Cooling Campaign, a component of the Tree by Tree: The Mile High Million initiative. The coupons may be used anytime before October 31, 2007.

Planting deciduous trees - trees that drop their leaves in the fall - on the west and east sides of a house provides energy savings by blocking out morning and afternoon sun in the summer and allowing sunlight to warm a house in the winter.

Trees also provide shade to driveways, patios, sidewalks and streets to help create a cooler environment around the home. Reducing cooling costs not only saves money, but also helps to reduce electricity consumption and the pollutants caused by power plants.

Ten percent off coupons and a list of participating garden centers can be downloaded from www.greenprintdenver.org, the official Web site of Greenprint Denver. Here, visitors can also find helpful information on tree planning, how to select a tree for their yard and instructions on how to contact the city before digging to locate all underground electric, gas, water, sewer, cable and telephone lines. Coupons may also be obtained by calling 311.

Tree by Tree: The Mile High Million is a metro-wide initiative to plant a million trees by 2025. To learn more, visit www.greenprintdenver.org or call 720.913.1311. The Mile High Million is an initiative of Greenprint Denver and is administered by Denver Parks and Recreation. The Mile High Million is generously underwritten by Suncor Energy.
