Fire started by adolescents nearly reaches a residential home
Contributed by: YourHub.com on 5/16/2005

WESTMINSTER, CO -  Westminster firefighters responded to a brush fire at 1:30 p.m. on May 14 in the 3100 block of Kassler Place.

Two adolescents tossed a lit match into a row of juniper bushes which ignited and the fire spread quickly. A neighbor called 9-1-1 immediately, and the Westminster Fire Department responded within three minutes to the residential home. Upon arrival, numerous juniper bushes were fully engulfed and the fire was approaching the residential home.

The Westminster Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire between the house and bushes. According to firefighters at the scene, if another minute would have passed, the fire would have extended into the house. The homeowner sustained superficial burns trying to put out the fire before the Fire Department arrived.

Westminster Fire Investigators arrested the two adolescents who admitted to starting the fire, and they were charged with 2nd degree arson. The judge will make the determination if the adolescents will need to enter the Fire Department’s juvenile fire setter intervention program.
