Join the Westminster PD Citizen's Academy
Contributed by: Heather Wood on 6/4/2008

On August 13th, 2008 the Westminster Police Department will host the 26th Citizen's Police Academy. The Citizen Police Academy is a free 12-week course taught each Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Graduation will be held on November 12th complete with an Italian dinner.
This program began in 1997 as a way to create a partnership and strengthen police ties within the community. Classes combine lecture and "hands-on" experience on topics such as: criminal law, officer survival, DUI and traffic enforcement, arrest control, and crime scene investigations. This academy is a great way for citizens to learn more about the police department and public safety.
After graduating, attendees are invited to join the Westminster Police Citizen Academy Alumni Association. The alumni association has over 175 members who volunteer at the police department and receive ongoing education and training. July's alumni training is currently being scheduled at a firearms range where alumni will get a chance to shoot a wide variety of firearms used by police to include those assigned to the SWAT Team.
This course is free, but sign up quickly as space is limited and applicants are taken on a first come first serve basis. If you are interested in attending the Citizen's Police Academy contact Investigator H. Wood at 303-658-4422 or by email at hwood@ci.westminster.co.us.
