Todd Squillante is running for Westminster City council.
My name:
Todd Squillante
Age:
42
My family:
Wife- Didy (37 years old- Former Shanghai, China native), Daughter-
Bianca (6 years old), Son-Maximus (3 years old), Father- Nunzio (Goes by Tony-
69 years old), Mother- Pat (68 years old), Brother- Scott (39 years old),
Sister- Dawn (37 years old), Sister- Vicki (36 years old). Everybody in my
family is a College graduate.
What I do:
I am a Transportation Manager for Centennial Agricultural Supply
Company. I am a 35 year resident of Colorado (1972) which has involved living
in Arvada, Highlands Ranch, Henderson, and Westminster. I have been involved
in management with many Colorado based companies for over 21 years, including such companies as Guaranty Bank and Trust, The Denver Post, McDATA, and Frontier Airlines. My educational accomplishments include a BS in Production and Operations Management from the University of Colorado and a Double MBA in International Business and Finance/Accounting from Regis University. I have traveled around the world in business operations and as a youth playing ice hockey. I took an interest in US Foreign Policy while an undergraduate at the University of Colorado, which earned me Who's Who in America honors in 1986 and I again achieved this honor for Business Executives in 2006 through my International Business MBA studies while at Regis University. I also hold a teaching credential at the Community College level to be a Professor.
My favorite place in town to hang out:
My family loves to shop and go out to eat, so my answer would be the Westminster Mall, Target (Church Ranch Blvd),Walmart (92nd and Sheridan), Cici's Pizza, Papa J's, Los Arcos, Amici's,Blockbuster (Wadsworth and Church Ranch Blvd), and many more. There are really too many places we love to frequent to list.
What I like most about living here:
I love the scenic mountain views, the open space, and viewing the aircraft take off and land from the runways at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport.
My interests and hobbies:
I love attending sporting events, playing ice hockey, coaching my daughters' soccer team, teaching my children to do many things (academic, sports, cultural), traveling around the United States and the World, sports cars/hot rods, shopping (bargains), and attending social/cultural events.
What is my favorite thing to cook:
I like cooking steaks on the barbecue along with other items.
People who inspired me (and how):
I would have to say that in most cases a persons parents inspire them in that they help set the tone to what should be expected for work ethic and moral/ethical philosophy in life. In my family, the competitive spirit of my brother and two sisters has always driven all of us to push the limit of doing our best, and achieving what may seem impossible at first, but obtainable in the end. In the business field, I would have to single out Rick Charbonneau of The Denver Post- State Manager; who is affectionately known as "The Worm" for all those who know him. Rick is one of those bosses you may only come in contact with once or twice in your life time. Worm has a knack of knowing when to delegate an action to let you run with the ball, and he gets ahead of the situation to lay out the support that is needed for you to get the job done. I have worked with Worm as a volunteer on The Ride the Rockies Bicycle Tour 8 of the last 11 years, and it is always something I look forward too each year.
How I have contributed to the community:
I hope to make a big contribution to the community by serving on the city council, and making a difference. I currently coach an Under-7 girls soccer team in the Westminster Youth Soccer league.
I volunteer each year to work the 7 day and roughly 420 mile Ride the Rockies Bicycle Tour. In the past I have served as a Big Brother in that program mentoring a 10-year-old boy. I am a credentialed College Professor at the Community College level, and I hope to give back to the community in so many ways sharing knowledge with students, that I have accumulated in world business travels and social situations over the years.
What are the biggest issues facing your city now:
There are a few issues that surface that are more important than some of the others. For many that I have spoken to while campaigning, the re-development of the Westminster Mall is a popular theme. I have lived in Colorado over 35 years and for many of those years the Westminster Mall was considered to be one of the top malls in the state. I know it is natural for a mall to go through evolutionary downgrades until it is eventually demolished, but I feel the Westminster Mall should be considered to be one of the epicenters of business activity for the city. There is a need to find a way to provide incentives to have the mall revitalize itself now. There are many empty slots in the mall when you observe operations, this needs to change.
I would also say protecting the tax borders with other large cities that surround Westminster is important. Another popular topic when canvassing the neighborhood is finding ways to utilize all the open space accumulated by the city. Westminster has done an outstanding job of acquiring a large amount of open space, the new challenge is finding good ways for the population to utilize that space.
