Americus Kalmar is running for Westminster City Council
Name:
Americus O. Kalmar
Age:
72.
Family:
I have been married for about 20 years. I have one son in the Air Force, one son in law in Air Force andone son an engineer.
What I do:
I am retired.
My favorite place to hang out:
I like to hang out at Home Depot, Lowe's, Harbor Freight Tools.
My interests and hobbys
: My favorite readings are on economy, politics, health issues, education. My likes are carpentry, maintenance, electronic works.
What is my favorite thing to cook
: Naturally my favorite foods are Hungarian foods, since I was born there.
People who inspired me (and how):
One very intelligent, well educated college professor had a great impression on me with his concern that we would be well educated. My grandfather was an example for me how to live a simple, healthy life and how to succeed with common sense. Though he had only two grades in elementary school, he managed to become a millionaire in Hungary. Mr. George Smith, a retired School of Mines professor influenced me with his simple friendliness and good advice.
How I have contributed to the community:
I believe that those people who work hard contribute to the community the most. They are the forgotten men. I worked hard my whole life as an electronic technician, carpenter, medical assistant, maintenance man, property manager for my folks and educator - to the point of back surgery. I helped Spanish speaking orphans and poor families.
What are the biggest issues facing your city now:
I don't believe the city is facing any major issues, just growing pains. Danger of eminent domain abuse could be an important issue.
