All Westminster residents should be concerned about the upcoming City Council election. Once again we have one-issue candidates trying to win Council positions in order to disrupt the current council. Jane Fancher and Faith Winters are both leaders of the small clique called SWORD that failed in their opposition to the urban renewal project that South Westminster so desperately needed due to their personal dislike of Wal-Mart. Had the Council members bowed to that special interest pressure and rejected the new zoning, those same SWORD members would be talking about how
great the Council is instead of their talk of how bad they are. It doesn't get more "one issue" than that. SWORD members continue to claim that the Council did not listen to the majority of the residents. However, the election shows they did. Why can't they accept that?
Jane Fancher's campaign platform is that she's an accountant. She may be an accountant, but she continually demonstrates she lacks the grasp of basic economics. Faith Winter's platform is 'bringing people together', which is very interesting since her and the SWORD group are what's been working hard to drive people apart! We've seen first hand that Fancher and Winter will put their own personal agendas 1 st. They already attempted to sell out us South Westminster residents and they are hoping you forgot that.
In my opinion, a great City Council member is a person who can put aside their personal agendas and do what's best for the city as a whole and aren't one issue candidates. Chris Dittman and JoAnn Price have continually demonstrated they put Westminster 1 st! Bob Briggs has done so much for our community (County Commisioner, State Legislature, RTD Board, Open Space Board, etc) that I feel honored that he has offered to serve as a council member. Dittman, Price and Briggs, is a trifecta that's just what our city needs.
