On February 11, close to 120 individuals attended what is becoming one of the premier social events in Westminster, Showcase Colorado, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Westminster 7:10. The event at the Westin Westminster featured haute cuisine, Colorado wines, with a fascinating explanation of each wine, Colorado art and a Silent Auction.
In addition to being a great social event it raised funds to support a host of good works. These include the club’s Computer for Kids program, which has collected, refurbished, and donated over 4,000 computers to needy kids in Westminster; a variety of scholarships, both to community and four year colleges; a partnership with Westminster Hills Elementary school to whom the club provides volunteers, books and support of a Mad Science program; support of the Neighborhood Action Group (NAG); and contributions to many charitable organizations such as Have a Heart. The club also supports international good works and has funded village banks in Guatemala, which provide small loans to start small businesses in rural areas of the country and has partnered with Socially Conscious Coffee to provide badly needed equipment and supplies in remote coffee growing regions of Brazil.
This year’s event was chaired by Roberta Bourn with great help from Lori Hanegan, John Inman, and Myron Treber, support from many local businesses including the Publishing House, support from many local artists, as well as many individuals and businesses who donated items for the silent auction.
