Gas line break snarling Westminster traffic
Contributed by: Westy Fire Department on 1/15/2008

2:45 p.m., Westminster, CO -- A gas line break reported near 70th Ave. and Sheridan Blvd. at 11:09 a.m. is still causing serious traffic delays. Westminster Fire and Police departments recommend avoiding the area if at all possible.

Only the southbound lane on Sheridan is open. Northbound traffic on Sheridan is being routed east on 70th to Yates, north on Yates to 72nd, and then west on 72nd back to Sheridan. The gas line break and resulting detour are causing extensive traffic back-ups on Sheridan in both directions.

A 6-inch gas line was damaged by construction efforts. A nearby McDonalds was evacuated; no injuries have been reported. City of Westminster, Xcel, and construction company employees are all on-site working to resolve the issue.
