What a waste of water

I love sprinklers. I really do. Especially when I was little and I got to run through them while I was supposed to be "watering" the yard. Fun stuff, those sprinklers. However, sad to say, sprinklers do have their downside.

I don't know how many times it's rained this summer alone in my area. I also don't know how many times after it has rained that the citywide sprinklers are on. Or, even better, during the rain. Now, Colorado has all these water advisories and regulations on how many times we can water our yards, wash our cars, etc etc, but how come the cities don't seem to regulate their own water use? What a waste of water to run sprinklers during a thunderstorm! Maybe it's just me, but I don't think the grass truly benefits from two sources of water at the same time.

Then again, I don't even know if the cities are aware of their incredible wasting of water. But someone is. Shouldn't they maybe bring that up with someone? Then again (and this is just my speculation), it might just be too much work to take the sprinklers off their schedule and then put them on it again when the grass is dry and the clouds are no where to be found. I'm thinking Colorado could save a TON of water just by flicking a switch. All I know is, every time I see a superfluous sprinkler on during a downpour, all I can think about is how many gallons of water we're wasting. Then again, maybe by turning the sprinklers on during the rain, we're coming out even: gaining water while losing water. Beats me.
