Photographing nature can be very enjoyable and extremely easy. Hiking mountain trails can be rewarding, but sometimes difficult and, if weather changes rapidly, the hike back to your car can be a bit uncomfortable.
There is a wonderful, pleasant alternative -- roadside photography. All kinds of opportunities are there for the taking, either from the window on the drivers side or at the most, just a few feet from the edge of the road.
Being alert and patient will produce excellent photos. The elk was photographed from the driver's side of my car by resting my lens on a bean bag. The same technique was used for capturing the meadowlark, along a country road just north of Denver. For the great view of Echo Lake on Mt. Evans, I took my camera and tripod a few short feet from my car.
If you love flowers, there are tons of paint brush, wild roses and daisies very close to most roads. Find a proper parking spot, get out and get down on th ground for the best angle and pleasing compositions.
Of course, always be safe and courteous by always following the rules of the road and always be kind to the environment.
Pack a picnic lunch, load up your camera, take a drive in the country and get some great shots -- by the side of the road.

This is good advice and will come in handy now that the weather is becoming more hospitable for photographers.
