Each year, more than 15,000 flowers, 200 trees and 500 shrubs are grown locally to create the lush landscaped gardens at the annual Colorado Garden & Home Show. The flowers and blooming trees are grown in Welby Gardens' greenhouse in Denver. They are planted in August and are grown in a strict climate-controlled environment which encourages the plants to bloom in the middle of winter.
Once the show has ended, approximately 20 metro area Rotary Clubs converged on the Colorado Convention Center to carefully box about 7,000 flowers and delivered them to nearly 60 local nursing homes on Monday, Feb. 16. This is the 13th year Rotarians have managed the flower delivery program.
