Unsafe at ANY speed.
Contributed by: Tate Travis on 9/8/2005

Another school year is upon us and once again many of our children are being transported in buses. These are buses with no seat restraints, with the exception of the operators seat.

If any of us were to be pulled over by a police officer and have a child in our vehicle without the proper seat belts being utilized, you can count on being written a summons to appear in court. Not only will you hear a tirade from the cop, but once in front of "His Honor", you're going to get yet another ear-full concerning the fact of what an uncaring and rotten parent you are.

But when it comes to our School Districts and The Department of Transportation, it's a horse of a different color. These "powers that be", in all thier infinite wisdom, are apparently convinced that taking a 40-passenger vehicle and painting it yellow, miraculously makes it impervious to gravity and G-Forces, if it is involved in a serious crash!

I would like to suggest that these administrators who decide that it's cost prohibitive to install seat belts in our school buses, volunteer to be active participants in the next series of crash and rollover tests. You can bet your bottom dollar that they will ALL be in a MEETING that day!
