My name is Ellen Drennen, and my husband, Randy is a candidate for the Adams 12 School Board. Many of you reading this letter probably have a lot in common with us. We have two children -- Connor, age 5 and Ryan, age 2 -- and we live in a quiet neighborhood in Thornton. Little League, neighborhood gatherings and family activities take up most of our free time. We have our share of worries as well, especially those that concern the future of our sons. Our sons are our top priorities in our lives. Anyone who is a parent knows that it's a constant struggle to ensure that the best possible decisions are being made for children to guarantee that they have a bright, successful future. There are so many things to think about – especially in an age where we see too much school violence, inadequate school resources and too little parental involvement in our children's educations.
A few weeks ago, Randy approached me and told me that he was considering running for School Board. The obvious question to me was why on earth would you want to take on more responsibilities in our already hectic life for a job that doesn't come with a paycheck? For Randy, the answer was simple: our sons' educational experience is at stake and this was one way that he can help guarantee that all of the students in the Adams 12 school district can live the dream that we have for our own sons -- a solid, quality educational foundation that will prepare them for all of life's challenges.
I know Randy better than anyone else, and he is absolutely a wonderful choice for School Board. As an active parent of a kindergartener, Randy experiences the ups and downs of education in our district on a daily basis. He's in the schools, talking to teachers and administrators. He's also got a great ear and when elected to School Board, he will be a direct mouthpiece for parents in the district. The bottom line is that Randy cares about our kids and he'll fight tooth-and-nail to guarantee that they have every opportunity they deserve. He might not always have a popular point-of-view, but he will always have the right perspective for our children.
Every day in the media and at the schools, we hear about how public education is at a crossroads. Randy and I truly believe in the power of public schools and we believe that the Adams 12 School District can truly be the best district in the state. I am so proud of my husband and his devotion to our family, to our sons and to our community. I hope that every parent, teacher and administrator in the district understands that Randy will be a School Board member that they can be proud of too.
On November 1st, please cast your vote for my husband, Randy Drennen, for School Board. It's time for a new perspective and -- as a parent, as a taxpayer and as a citizen -- Randy is the right person for the job. On behalf of our sons, our family and our neighbors, I thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely,
Ellen Drennen
