Blog Entry 6 of 13 The Seth Files
My name is Seth and I am the community journalist for the Arvada/Wheat Ridge area. Instead of trying to narrow my blog down to a specific topic, I figure I might as well just wing it and see what happens. And since this is my first attempt ever at blogging, I hope you will take the plunge with me and start your own blog.

I could use your help for my next story

I'll admit, I have found it hard to get in the holiday spirit the past couple of years. I can't really pinpoint the reason, but the last thing I want is to have anyone compare me to Ebenezer Scrooge or the Grinch. For that reason, I have decided to bolster my holiday enthusiasm by attempting to provide some help for local people who can use it.

I'll be writing a story about people and organizations in Arvada and Wheat Ridge who are trying to make the holidays a happier times for the less fortunate. The Arvada Community Food Bank, Jeffco Action Center, some local businessesand many area churches (feel free to tell me which ones and what they are doing for the holidays) are good examples of people working together to assist others. I'm also compiling a list of as many of these groups as possible to let your community know how it can help out.

Here's where I ask for your help.

While I'll be scouring the Web and other directories for information about organizations doing great things for the holidays and for local events that benefit the needy, I can't promise that I'll find them all. If you are involved in an organization, are holding a holiday benefit event, know someone else who is helping others for the holidays, etc., you can either post your information as a comment on this blog, call me at 303-954-2457or e-mail me at daviss@yourhub.com.

I look forward to hearing from you and I hope this helps you get in the holiday spirit, too.

Here are a couple of holiday events your neighbors have posted on YourHub.com.You can post your own events on this Web site.

The Arvada Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Taste of the Holidays at the Apex Center on Nov. 15. Proceeds will benefit the Arvada Community Food Bank.

A group of Olde Town Arvada merchants has collaborated to present an art walk to benefit the Arvada Community Food Bank on Nov. 9.

Thanks for the suggestion, Gladys. I'll definitely include Hope House in my list.

I like your green face...and Santa hat. I bet there's still time to be one of those mall Santas. EOE

Hope House in Arvada is a home for unwed mothers that are trying to raise their childrn and also be trained for a job. They can certainly use help during the holidays. Last year, after reading one of my stories about Hope House, the Arvada JC's gave them a great Christmas by providing toys for the kids and help for the organization. Thanks for doing this Seth.
