If you've ever wanted to teach another person to read, to do math, or to speak English, now is your chance to learn how.
The Literacy Coalition of Colorado is sponsoring free workshops for prospective tutors on Saturday, September 6, at Red Rocks Community College, 13300 W. 6th Avenue, Lakewood. Registration is from 8:30 to 9 a.m. with a continental breakfast provided by the college.
The training is open to both new and current volunteers or anyone interested in exploring the possibility of tutoring. There is an age requirement of 18 years or older.
From 9 to 9:30 a.m. an introduction to Adult Education will be presented followed by a number of 1-hr. workshops providing techniques and strategies for teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), math, reading and GED test preparation.
Prospective volunteers will have a chance to speak with representatives of literacy programs from across the Metro Denver area. Information about the varied opportunities to tutor in this area will be available.
The deadline to register for the training is Wednesday, September 3. For additional information or to register, contact Molly Elkins, 303-688-7646, or email her at: melkins@cdlibraries.org
