BOOM-A-FAIR: a must-attend event for job seekers
Contributed by: Heather Hoak on 4/8/2008

BOOM-A-FAIR

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 22

Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 15200 W. 6th Ave., Golden, CO 80401

Last year, nearly 2,500 boomer job seekers descended upon the Jefferson County Fairgrounds armed with strong resumes, business cards and the desire to find that next great opportunity. There to greet them were close to 100 businesses eager to meet these highly qualified job seekers. Businesses that sign up to participate in the BOOM-A-FAIR know this much is true - baby boomers bring experience, commitment and insight, which are invaluable to today's employers.

This year, the second annual BOOM-A-FAIR(a job fair for Baby Boomers) is shaping up to be another win-win event for job seekers and businesses alike. A wide range of industries has already signed on for the event and new registrations are received daily. To date, confirmed participants include Starbucks, Ameristar Casino, King Soopers, Jefferson County Government, Wells Fargo, Babies R Us, Fitzgeralds, RTD, Verizon Wireless, and St. Anthony's Hospital to name a few.

In addition to businesses interested in tapping into the valuable pool of boomer job seekers, there will also be a variety of resources and seminars available to BOOM-A-FAIR participants. Representatives from The Boomer Group, Senior Resource Center, and Jefferson County Vocational Rehabilitation Services will be on hand to provide information about their services for boomers. Seminars on networking and the "elevator pitch" will be given by Donald Strankowski and Jane Grogan respectively. Other informative sessions are planned as well.

Boomer job seekers should mark their calendars now for this free, must-attend event. To make the most of the day, be prepared by having plenty of resumes and business cards on hand (need business cards? Go to vistaprint.com and order free business cards for the price of shipping). Bring an easy-to-carry portfolio in order to keep track of contacts and information. Finally, dress for an interview and be prepared with your "elevator" pitch so you can make the most of all the contacts you make at the BOOM-A-FAIR. Want more information?
