Sue Schafer is running for House District 24 and answered a questionnaire for YourHub.com. To read all of the candidate questionnaires, click here.

Name: Sue Schafer

Age: 66

Family: Two grown children

Education: B.S., U. of Nebraska, education; M.A., CU, counseling; Ed.D., UNC, K-12 curriculum; School Principal's License, CSU

What I do: I own a small education consulting business which assists low-performing public schools to improve their academic achievement and safe climate. Previously I was a joint owner of a wheat farm and a medical practice. Recently I've taught in the Graduate School of Education at DU.

My favorite place to hang out: Crown Hill Park, Wheat Ridge Recreation Center

What I like most about living here: Blue skies, bright sunshine, hiking and skiing in the mountains, the grand Open Space and stately trees in Wheat Ridge, proximity to sports and culture in downtown Denver

My interests and hobbies: tennis, travel, dancing, theater, family get-togethers

My favorite thing to cook: fajitas, chocolate chip cookies, German chocolate cake (all low cal)

People who inspire me and how:Lance Armstrong for overcoming a deadly disease and becoming a world champion; Eleanor Roosevelt for leading social and political progress at home during WWII; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for civil and moral leadership

How I have contributed to the community: I volunteer to improve the business and social life through Wheat Ridge 2020 urban revitalization program, through Enterprise Wheat Ridge business alliance, and through the Wheat Ridge Senior Center Advisory Board. As a teacher and counselor, I have helped students of all ages prepare for college , careers, and success in life. Raising two honest, capable children contributes to a positive society.

The biggest issues facing us now: Voters tell me they are most worried about the cost of consumer goods, security of pensions and mortgages, affordable health care, and smart transportation growth.

Why I am running: As a small business owner and educator, I am highly motivated to help shape a secure and prosperous future for all Colorado citizens! Our people need a strong education to prepare for the skilled jobs of the 21 st century, attracting business to our district, quality health care, smart transportation growth, and protection of our environment. I am honored to be endorsed by Rep. Cheri Jahn, Sen. Moe Keller, U.S. Congressman Ed Perlmutter, Edgewater Mayor Bonnie McNulty, and Wheat Ridge Mayor Jerry DiTullio. My position on issues is available at www.sueschafer.com
