Serving Kids clothing drives a huge success

December 21, 2007, Lakewood, CO - December is the month for giving and the Jeffco Public Schools' and business community have come forward in numbers for "Serving Kids", a Jeffco Schools student clothing program supported by The Jefferson Foundation, and all Jeffco Schools employee organizations, including Jeffco PTA and Jeffco Credit Union. Here are a few examples of holiday giving:

- Jose O'Shea's (2nd at Union) sponsored a VIP party where entrance required a new article of clothing for Serving Kids.

- Retired Jeffco employee, Agnes Carey takes advantage of sales on youth underwear, and purchases them as her contribution to the program.

- Linda Sanders, Manager, Support Services, and Mary Wagner, from the Jefferson County Administrators' Association (JCAA), organized a 4th annual blue jeans drive that has brought in over 150 pairs of blue jeans.

- Dena Zamora at Stott Elementary is currently doing a "Captain Underpants" Drive, collecting new underwear for Serving Kids.

- Several groups, such as the Jefferson County Educators' Association (JCEA teachers) and the Superintendent's District Cabinet have donated money, in lieu of holiday parties.

Serving Kids is an all-volunteer organization that has provided clothing to Jeffco students for over ten years. Since the start of the 2007-2008 school year the program has distributed over 6,000 articles of clothing - a substantial increase from previous years.

"Thanks to everyone who contributed to Serving Kids," said Mona Sandoval, Executive Director of The Jefferson Foundation. "There are many students existing at the poverty level in Jefferson County. Although The Foundation collects new and near-new clothing for our students in-need throughout the year, it is heartwarming to see this amount of giving in the winter, when the need is so great."
