WHEAT RIDGE CO.(July 2,2008) The Wheat Ridge Optimists Club is now in the preparation stages for its largest fund raising project of the year; The Annual All You Can Eat Pancake Supper to be held Thursday October 23rd from 5 PM to 8PM in the cafeteria of Wheat Ridge High School.This supper offers delicious pancakes, sausage, bacon, ham juice and coffee. It also features a chocolate fountain. Entertainment includes a very talent magician. A very varied silent auction will also be available along with valuable door prizes.
Last year The Wheat Ridge Optimists club celebrated its 50th anniversary. Over the past 50 years the club has contributed thousand of dollars to worthy projects in the Wheat Ridge community including annually 60 or more family Christmas boxes of food, clothing,sundries and a gift for every child in the family.In addition,the club provides scholarships for needy seniors, many of whom have a physical disability.Each March the club in conjunction with Green Mountain Optimists sponsors a Tri-Star basketball tournament for boys and girls ages 8 through 13. Competition is held in 3 areas:Free Throw, Dribbling and Passing. top three winners go on to Westside competition and the winners then go on to Colorado-Wyoming regional competition held this year on the Nugget's court at the Pepsi Center. Each September the club sponsors a bicycle safety program at Stevens Elementary, in conjunction with the Wheat Ridge fire and police departments. Each child in need is given a safety helmet. Tickets for this all you can eat pancake supper are now available.$7per adult, $3 for children under 12.
