City of Wheat Ridge Mayor's Office, Cultural Commission and the Wheat Ridge Foundation Begin Fundraising Effort for the Purchase of Public Art
Wheat Ridge, CO - July 18, 2008 - The City of Wheat Ridge Mayor's Office in partnership with the Cultural Commission and the Wheat Ridge Foundation began fundraising efforts to acquire public art on Monday, July 14 th. Fundraising efforts were kicked-off with a presentation about the program by Mayor Jerry DiTullio and 2007 Wheat Ridge Volunteer of the Year Tom Abbott. The Mayor accepted the first public art donation of $2,500 from resident Tom Abbott. Mayor DiTullio also presented a personal donation in the amount of a $1,000 towards the public art fundraising effort. A total of $50,000 in funding is needed to purchase a sculpture that will be created by local artist and Wheat Ridge resident Kevin Robb.
"The benefits of public art are many and our goal is to have the needed funding raised within a year," said Mayor Jerry DiTullio. "The Wheat Ridge Cultural Commission will select the sculpture in addition to making a recommendation to City Council on the location of where the sculpture will be placed." For more information about the public art fundraising program, please visit the City's Web site at www.ci.wheatridge.co.us and click on "Elected Officials" and "Mayor's Office" to view a copy of a letter to stakeholders from the Mayor and a portfolio of Kevin Robb's sculptures.
