Two faces of three Denver artists at Baby Doe's
Contributed by: Nancy Mason on 8/8/2008

Baby Doe's Clothing, 1116 Washington Avenue in historic downtown Golden, has always combined the work of regional artists with great casual clothing. Those relationships with artists have grown to friendships and interest in seeing the growing body of their work. So we invite you to see The Two Faces of Three Denver Artists.

One medium often leads to another.

Candice Kiesow of CC Designs Art Jewelry was awarded 1st place in jewelry at the Golden Fine Arts Festival in 2007.She began her journey as an artist working with earthenware clay making functional and nonfunctional sculptural pieces. She later studied metalsmithing, printmaking and graphic art. In 2000, Candice discovered a new way of working with silver. Pure Metal Clay is a soft malleable substance that is made from pure silver or gold combined with an organic binder and water. It can be molded, textured and shaped like traditional clay. When fired in a kiln to sinter it, the binder burns off and what is left is gold or .999 fine silver. Candice uses techniques from the clay world, printmaking and graphics work with the pure metal clay. Clay and jewelry pieces will be displayed.

The metal sculpture and wearable art of Marie Quinn arise from the alchemy of tensions: simple organic shapes versus heavy ornamentation, unyielding materials into soft compelling pieces. Many pieces are often simple in shape with surfaces ornately embellished with stones, pearls, texture and color. Textures and techniques are juxtaposed in her jewelry and sculpture. An essential component of her work is the repetition of some tiny element which imparts a wealth of detail and ornament. Sculpture and jewelry will be displayed.

Patricia Zilinski is internationally known as a silk dyer and weaver. The interaction of color in her luminous fiber art is a feast for the eyes. "I have an addiction to color, and uncontrolled urge to see colors play with each other in ever-changing combinations." Her work in fiber has segued to oil painting. "Thread colors have been transformed into painted transitions. The textures of my fabric have become playful paint strokes." Patricia's botanical paintings continue to feed our desire for rich and flamboyant color. Handwoven and ikat-dyed silk scarves and oil paintings will be displayed.

Stop by to see the diverse work of these three women. Show begins Friday, August 15 through Monday, August 25.
